	Developed in response to the need for fast turnaround images that appear bright even in poor lighting Dot Matrix is a system for recording an optically variable device (OVD) as a series of dots. Each dot is a separate holographic exposure whose colour and position is tightly controlled. As in regular dot matrix printing the smaller the dots, and the closer they are packed, the finer the detail you can achieve in the image. Unlike regular printing, the sequence of dots can be designed to switch on and off and their colours to change in phase so that designs and patterns can be built. Because Dot Matrix is a what-you-see-is-what-you-get system, the quality of its output is highly dependent on the quality of the design that is inputted.
