Why are holograms so effective against counterfeits? Holograms, BrandMax® OVDs and HiMax® OVDs are considered to be the most popular cost-effective authenticating technology available. They are particularly effective against the counterfeiting threat posed by desktop publishing. The reason being that scanners, copiers and graphics packages are very good at simulating even the most complex printing process but cannot accommodate the depth of image and distinctive rainbow colour changes in holographic techniques. Are holograms expensive? Whether you compare the price to the amount your company can save from reducing counterfeiting or compare the price to competing technologies, then the answer has to be no. The process starts with one of our security consultants talking with you to make sure we fully understand your needs. We would then ask you to send us some simple artwork showing basic elements of the hologram you want to create. If you don't have any artwork then we can just as easily work from your verbal instructions. Can I preview the hologram before it is actually made? Yes. After you have sent us a basic brief we would prepare, free of charge, some artwork that would capture the look of the hologram. At that stage you can make whatever changes or additions you like. When you have returned the approved artwork to us we would then produce the holographic image. Once the hologram is made how do I get it onto the finished item? That really depends on the item onto which your hologram is to be placed. If you want to secure some product packaging, for instance, then the hologram can be made as a tamper-evident label and applied by hand or by automatic label application equipment. If you want to protect a document then the hologram is made on a type of transfer tape called hot-stamping foil. The hologram is transferred from the tape onto the document by a special converting press. But, in general, whatever surface or product you wish to protect there is a material and a transfer process to fit. How long does the process take? From receipt of your instructions it will take about 3 working days to send you the preview artwork. From your approval it will take, depending on its complexity, another 5 to 10 working days to send you a viewing plate of the actual hologram. From your approval to proceed it will then take between 15 - 20 working days to despatch the first production material. These timings are guidelines and we at Light Impressions are keen to be as flexible as possible to fit into your time frames. | |
